MOELLER @ ELDER (GCL)

For most of the late 80s and early 90s, this was THE premier matchup in the GCL, and occasionally the city. This year, it's likely a battle to avoid last place. Moeller again showed its talent last week, but a few mistakes led to a 14-17 defeat to LaSalle. The Lancers, as I observed last week, are looking like contenders. This could mean complete and utter parity in the GCL for future years, being as this is an off year for the Panthers. Both the Lancers and the Bombers had their way with Elder, beating them 40-20 and 44-10 respectively. The key to the game for the Crusaders will be to avoid turnovers. If they can do this, they will win and it will likely not be a close game. Elder, on the other hand, has beaten a very good Dayton Wayne team and nearly knocked off what's turning out to be a great Massillon Washington squad. It will depend on which Moeller and Elder teams show up.

This week, the offense showed up, and the defense played well to a point. The flow of the game indicated that when the offense scored, the defense would take a break on the next series. Elder's defense did not play well, period. If Moeller doesn't buck up and start playing like a contender, I fear weeks 9 and 10. They have the talent and coaching to go far, but so far lack the consistency. Go Crusaders! Put together 8 in a row all the way to state! Beat X, beat Ed's, silence the doubters! We know you can do it, and we support you!
